So yeah... I've kept playing on this server specifically because of what it tries to accomplish: trolling noobs into oblivion so they either try and actually help the team or they leave, playing payload maps, as well as instant banning those mic spamming motherfuckers who seem to have every wav file known to man including but not limited to: Do the Locomotion, Super Mario Brothers, and the Hampster Dance.
That being said, that's not what's happening right now. In fact, it's safe to say this server sucks. And it sucks because of the admins/admin abuse. If I had randomly joined this server, and seen some of these things going on, I never would have come back... ever.
1) Maps
cp_badlands... Really? I mean... Really?? This is the worst map ever made, and we loaded it up on a server that's only supposed to be running payload maps. We seem to be loading up koth maps, so I guess that makes this a koth/payload server which I don't mind so much. But cp_badlands? I just donated to this damned server and not 2 hours later I had this shit forced on me, which apparently emptied the server. Wonder why...
2) General Abuse
I've seen some random admin abuse, and lot's of it. If a small group of us are screwing around... whatever. But when there's an actual game going on, this shit has got to stop. You know someone who's playing who you think needs a beacon? You think it'd be funny to change someone's gravity and watch them fly across the screen? Here's an idea: don't fucking do it. I've seen this shit happen, and it's gay. It ruins the game for the people who are actually trying to play. This is supposed to be a teamwork server, and when you guys do this stuff you're shitting all over it. The power should really be there as a last resort.
3) Ronin
Sorry to single you out man, but I've gotta say this. You've got a serious chip on your shoulder when it comes to noobs. Your trolling is just abusive. It's not the same as when Blue or others do it, you seem to be really going after them instead of trying to get them to play for the team. The way you were going after that one sniper today was hard to listen to. It seriously reminded me of middle school bullies. Had someone (I forget who) told you that you shouldn't 'drug' him using admin, I think you probably would have. That shit's just wrong; it ruins the environment and it ruins the game.
Ideas/suggestions:
1) Map voting!
Admins shouldn't be able to just change the map to whatever they want. Cause yeah, voting is what most people do to select maps. Cause you know, you vote for maps and play the ones that people want to play. Strong arm admin map changing? You should be shot. You think you can do what you want because you pay for the server? Well there are others who pay for it too.
2) People who keep abusing admin by doing random crap should lose it after enough warnings. Maybe a point system? Whatever system that is put in place for this probably needs to be discussed, but it *must* be clear as day when it comes to consequences for screwing up. Of course, we wouldn't need any of this if people would only use admin to ban racism/mic spam, and kick for not switching classes when asked ***politely***.
3) Ronin, eat more muffins. I eat muffins and they make me happy.
4) Something a little off topic; I don't think we can/should keep handing out admin to anyone that throws the server money as desperately as that money is needed. I think the $5/$10 dollar thing should be good for a month of spot/admin only. In less than 3 weeks from now, there will be another $120 bill that needs paying or we lose this server. To keep this going, we'll need consistent monthly donations. If this suggestion does go into effect, people should be offered their money back as this isn't exactly what they were promised. Not that I see anyone taking back their money, but they should be offered the choice.
I'm generally pretty laid back and I hate to stir shit (well, being serious while stirring it anyways), but all this just needed saying. The whole cp_badlands thing was the last straw. I really hope no one takes any of this criticism personally. I don't see this as personal, I'm just annoyed at what a lot of you new admins have been doing. I don't hate you - so please don't hate me >_<!
